Derek McCulloch proprietor
After graduating in German as a Foundation Scholar at University College Durham and taking his teaching diploma (Dip.Ed) he went to teach at the University of Tübingen in Germany, at the same time studying History of Music there, and Singing at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart. As Germany's only countertenor at the time he was much in demand, performing and recording inter alia for the then rising star Helmuth Rilling. On returning to UK to take up a lecturing post at the University of Surrey he performed and recorded for Roger Norrington, and was also appointed alto lay clerk at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle (1970-77). In 1990 he finally completed his doctoral thesis on “Aristocratic Composers in the 18th Century”. Research awards from the Leverhulme Trust and the British Academy enabled archival research into unexplored REPERTOIRES, much of which has been incorporated since in our DISCOGRAPHY. He is married to JENNY THOMAS, the ensemble's flautiste, producing five offspring. |
